Where do we find good web design? Some inspiring design links

We like to think of ourselves as quite unique in the huge and busy world of web design blogs, mainly because we (hopefully!) post quite unusual and distinctive sites. Here we show you some great resources we use to discover new web design.

Firstly, we should talk about a other web inspiration galleries, of which there are many hundreds but only a few that we personally feel deliver genuinely interesting content.

Web Design Galleries

The Queen of web galleries in our opinion is MiminalSites: a site dedicated to minimal design only, in an arena of blogs that deal with primarily with very fussy and overcomplicated design. In fact MiminalSites inspired the creation of this blog, but with a larger remit, and you’ll find that many sites in the Minimal category here have been attributed to MinimalSites.

A newcomer to the game is Siiimple, which similarly offers some lovely picks of good minimal sites with clean typography and glowing whitespace.

Other galleries of note are Best Web Gallery, One Page Love and Unmatched Style, but many of their sites are quite typical of the popular ‘web 2.0’ aesthetic that dominates most other galleries.

Interaction Design Sites

We’d categorise these sites differently since their purpose is routed in something deeper than purely galleries of general web design.

PatternTap, for example, offers an incredibly detailed showcase of specific design patterns that ultimately exist because they are useful. The site has taken the community by storm, and quite rightly so: for the definitive resource for discovering specific elements, PatternTap is the place to go.

(On a side note, the website is built upon the same wonderful Codeigniter PHP framework upon which this site is based.)

The king of interaction/UI/UX design is of course, Konigi, created and maintained by Michael Angeles who offers some brilliant content. The site isn’t purely a gallery however; it offers great posts about UX and UI design.

Design Blogs

By far the majority of posts for this site come from great design blogs. Again there are literally hundreds to choose from, but all differ wildly in terms of content. Many of the blogs themselves are featured on this site as examples of great web design, so the links they offer tend of be of extremely high merit.

See? This is why I have to limit the time I spend on siteInspire everyday. I’m now going to spend the next 2 hours browsing this amazing list of links. I’ll not even start to work until middle of the afternoon! I guess it’s OK though - I always do better work when properly ‘inspired’!
